General Questions

What is cold-pressed?

Our juices are “cold-pressed” which means that they are as nutrient-rich as juice gets.

The cold press system is two stages: first, solid produce is shredded without heating (or accidentally generating heat), and second, the shredded produce is placed in a sterile bag and squeezed using a flat press at 2000lbs of pressure. The cool shredding breaks open fibres and frees nutrients in the juice. The flat cold press extracts the juice with those nutrients.

Many other systems shred using rotary blade machines that heat up while in use. Because vitamins and nutrients are heat-sensitive, the product is much more nutrient-rich if the shredding and pressing are cooler. Because the system is also efficient, there is also less waste! We use a Goodnature X6 Juicer, an industry-standard machine.

What are the benefits of raw green juice?

Green juice is an anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory and an antidote to the toxins in our diet and our environment. Green juice has chlorophyll, an awesome and dynamic blood cleansing and blood building power. Green juice floods the body with phytochemicals and folic acid. Folic acid (also known as folate, vitamin m, vitamin b9, vitamin bc (or folacin), pteroyl-l-glutamic acid, and pteroyl-l-glutamate) is a form of the water-soluble vitamin b9.

Why is your juice so expensive?

Green Carrot juice contains a lot of fresh produce—3 to 4 pounds of fruits or vegetables in every juice. That’s a lot of produce. As well, the whole Cold Pressing process is very labour intense and requires expensive specialized equipment. Sure, you can make juice cheaper at home but with high quality ingredients, recipes, local, organic produce, we believe we have the best juices priced as low as possible. As a added bonus we save you hours of juicing and cleaning at home.Green Carrot Juice!

Why don’t you make juice to-order?

Green Carrot is committed to cold-pressed, high quality juice. From cleaning to shredding to pressing to bottle takes roughly 8 to 12 hours. We do small batch Cold Pressing EVERYDAY and bottle immediately to give you the highest quality freshest Cold Pressed juice possible.. We assure you, that the Cold Pressed juice you are drinking is Fresh!

“Cold-pressed” juices are available elsewhere with a longer shelf life. What’s up?

Some companies use High Pressure Pasteurization (HPP) to treat foods and juices to extend shelf life to 30 or even 40 days. But the process of HPP deactivates certain microorganisms and enzymes. It changes the chemical makeup of the juice. Some experts go so far as to say that HPP is like another additive and is just another form of pasteurization.

Green Carrot’s juices are fresh from the press. In order to preserve the integrity of all the produce we use, we do not use HPP. Our juices have only a 5-day shelf life because we believe in offering the highest quality product with the maximum nutritional value. Fresh is Best – your food should only last a few days and not months in your fridge. Think about that!

Is everything organic?

When we have a choice, we choose organic. Green Carrot is committed to a sustainable world. We work hard to source both organic and local wherever possible. For example, we source local whenever possible because we know that the less time spent on a truck or in a box in transport, the fresher the product. FRESH IS BEST!

What about fibre?

Our raw juice contains trace amounts of water soluble and non-soluble fibre. You only need trace amounts of fibre on a juice fast liquid diet, as you can go quite a long time without fibre on a juice fast.

We stand by the philosophy that the best way to get fibre is from eating whole, fresh fruits and vegetables the old fashion way. Make no mistake: the value of raw fresh juice is that we are removing most of the fibre which allows the nutrients in the juice to be absorbed into the blood stream quickly. Cold Pressed juices offer little to no resistance in digestion and require little to no energy to absorb, which we believe is the AWESOME power of drinking Green Carrot Cold Pressed juice.Green Carrot Juice!

Why does my juice look different from the last time I bought it?

You can thank Mother Nature for that! Every piece of fresh fruit and vegetable is unique. Sometimes it will be darker, or lighter or sweeter or slightly more tart. That is exactly why our juices may be different, too. Batch to batch, our juices will have subtle differences in flavour and colour. We do not use colourants or dyes to make up for these slight differences. We are committed to never using additives or preservatives in our Cold Pressed juices or any of our products. These subtle changes are your guarantee of fresh, quality produce in each batch. The way nature intended our food to be.

Why does the juice settle in the bottle?

Green Carrot juices are real, whole juices, just as they come out of the press. If your juice settles, it's the sign of a good thing. We do not add fillers or emulsifiers to make the juice “look standard” on the shelf. Just give it a shake, and enjoy with confidence that you have the real thing!

What about sugar content?

We do not add any sugar, fillers, or preservatives to our juices. Ever!

Some people say that all sugars should be cursed and avoided. But naturally occurring sugars are in all fruits and vegetables and therefore a part of the whole product. Not all calories are the same: a calorie from a Cold Pressed juice is nutrient dense and rich but is not the same as a calorie from a soda! For those who look to reduce even naturally occurring sugars, the best choices are green juices.

How much of each ingredient is in each juice?

About 3 to 5 pounds of fruits and vegetables are in every bottle. Depending on how much we juice, the formula for each juice is adjusted proportionally. This is also largely dependant on the ripeness, quality, individual recipe itself.

How important are calories?

A lot of people are concerned about calories. The first thing to consider is the source of the calories. The sources of Green Carrot calories are raw, plant-based, unprocessed foods, not processed foods. The calories in these unprocessed foods are packed with nutrients that feed your body, and detoxify the body. Because nutrition is more than just calories, it's important to look at the whole picture when assessing the value of a food or beverage. We believe that just counting—or reducing—calories without assessing nutritional values is a catastrophic blunder: you cannot achieve optimal health unless there is a shift in focus to nutritional value. A calorie from a slice of pizza is not the same as a calorie from a Cold Pressed juice. Green Carrot Juice!

Do you use sweeteners?

The best sweeteners are no sweeteners at all, but the whole fruit in its raw form. In many of our juices and products, we use whole raw fruits such as apple or dates, which give a bit of sweetness alongside their nutrients!

What is the shelf-life of your product?

Our Cold Pressed juices and raw foods are fresh, whole and real. We do not use preservatives or high-pressure pasteurization to extend shelf life. We buy only fresh, and each item has a short shelf life indicated by the best-before date.

  • Raw oatmeal: 3 days
  • All Cold-Pressed juices: 5 days*

Cleanse Questions

Why cleanse?

Cleansing is good for your body for many reasons. First, it gives your digestive system a chance to rest and recharge. Our air, water, food, cosmetics, etc. can contain substances that are harmful. Replacing regular meals with cold-pressed juices and whole foods floods your body with healthful vitamins and nutrients, allowing it to release toxins. As Alejandro Junger, M.D. explains, “Humans have always instinctually known that a regular period of resting and recharging the body will let it shed the accumulated toxins and waste materials that tend to build up in all of us simply from living.”

Cleansers report feeling refreshed with greater energy, mental clarity, and an overall sense of “feeling better.” Some report modest weight loss and glowing skin.

Cleansing also reinvigorates your taste buds. By removing chemicals, pesticides, and processed food from your diet, your taste buds will fully taste what you are ingesting, once again making healthful eating more pleasurable.

Will I be hungry?

Probably not. It depends on the cleanse program you choose and how much you usually eat. You may be hungry initially, but that should quickly go away. You can aid the process by consuming pure water between nutritional beverages. Our cleanse menus provide you with plenty of nutrients, so there is no need to worry about deprivation. The hunger you are experiencing is probably due to a change in your routine and an emotional connection to food. As you get further along in your cleanse, you will notice cravings start to disappear. If you are too hungry, feel free to add a salad, fresh fruit, or other organic plant-based snacks to your cleanse program.Green Carrot Juice!

Will I lose weight?

What a controversial subject. You will likely lose weight during a cleanse because you’re leaving out processed and cooked foods and you’re in a calorie deficit. Juice is food. It’s pure, unprocessed, amazing nutrition. However, we do not recommended a juice cleanse as a means to permanent weight loss or lifestyle choice.

It takes 18 hours for your body to digest just ONE meal. Now imagine how many times you eat in 18 hours. A juice cleanse is a great way to give your digestive tract a break. Keep in mind, it’s not the juice alone that is performing mystical or magical work—it’s all about what you’re leaving out. The simple fact is that during a cleanse, you are avoiding processed foods, bad food combinations, overeating, etc. When you do this, your body is allowed to do what it is designed to do: heal. this is basic biology and chemistry—nothing here that a doctor can deny.

How do I get protein and fibre from just juice?

Our juice contains trace amounts of protein, but the main benefit of a juice cleanse, in our experience, is that you're leaving out excessive protein and using protein stores in the body. We believe that if you add animal protein back in to a juice fast, it will limit the depth of the cleanse.

How can I expect to feel during the cleanse?

It’s important to listen to your body. Cleansing is different for everyone and your body will tell you what is and isn’t working. There is no “one cleanse fits all.” During the cleanse, stay hydrated with purified water and enjoy herbal tea. It is normal to experience headaches, minor lightheadedness, “fogginess”, or fatigue.

Feel free to add additional juices or fruits and veggies as you see fit. If you are not sure where to begin, give us a call or connect with an expert from our team to help you decide the appropriate program for your lifestyle and goals.

You can adjust or stop the cleanse at any time if you wish, but we suggest you first reach out to us for more support at manager@greencarrotjuice.com or (204) 691-0771Green Carrot Juice!

Do I need to drink the juices in the exact order?

Yes. Generally, the cleanse programs progress from lightest to heaviest throughout the day. This will help with digestion — for some it may take a while for it to engage, since it is different from what most people are used to. If something isn't working for you, switch it up and experiment. See how that goes. Talk to us a Green Carrot! If you notice indigestion or excess gas, switch back to the suggested routine.

Can I use my own cooler?

Yes! Make sure you tell our Green Carrot staff when you are ordering! You may receive an added discount on your cleanse!

Can I still work out while cleansing?

Yes, we recommend low- or no-impact activities like yoga, walking, swimming, stretching and breathing exercises. An easy walk will gently encourage lymphatic circulation; a sweaty workout will push toxins out more quickly. Listen to what your body needs.

Sometimes rest can be the greatest purifier. Also, consider taking a hot salt bath — and almost nothing beats the sweating power of a sauna.

How do I prepare for a cleanse?

The night before you cleanse, do not binge eat on high caloric, fatty foods— you’ll only feel that much more hungry on day one of your cleanse! Drink juice and eat clean, reasonable meals. The best "last meal" is a large diverse raw salad without animal protein.

It’s a good idea to pre-cleanse by spending one or more days eating fresh fruit, salads, sprouts, nuts and seeds. Avoid all processed foods.

You don’t have to stop working or make the perfect time to cleanse. We recommend doing a cleanse at any time and as frequently as you can afford. For best results, though, it is necessary to rest from exercise. You may train, but it is not ideal during detox. Green Carrot Juice!

How do I exit a cleanse?

Ending a juice fast is the most crucial aspect of the process. The raw vegan diet after a prolonged fast is truly the best way to continue to detox. Maintain that as long as possible after a juice fast.

On the first day out of a fast, begin with fruit and raw salad. You may opt to continue with some cold-pressed juices. Our smoothies and whole foods are also great transition food items!

You may start mornings off with hot water and lemon tea to continue with your alkaline routine— add raw honey if you desire. Try to drink blended smoothie with greens.

Slowly introduce cooked vegetables and add them to a raw salad. Introduce nuts in moderation and eat plenty of sprouts. Consume a good amount of solid raw fruits and vegetables daily. Eat fruits and vegetables separately (it’s ok to mix them in a juice) and try to eat small meals.

Stay away from alcohol! Avoid all processed foods!

Can I drink alcohol on a cleanse?

Nope. You must be thinking of a different kind of juice cleanse!

Can I have coffee on a cleanse?

No! Try to wean out coffee 1 week to 3 days before your cleanse. It will help with the detox process!

Can I have gum on a cleanse?

Gum often had added sugars or chemicals. It is not recommended during the cleanse.

Can I have tea on a cleanse?

Sure! Herbal teas are acceptable, though we don’t encourage them. Make sure it is herbal and not regular tea— no caffeine, remember? Outside the juices, we recommend pure, plain water (sparkling ONLY if you must with no added ingredients!)

I am diabetic, should I cleanse?

Always seek medical advice from a trained health care provider. Do not self diagnose or treat illnesses by yourself from things you read on the internet!

I am pregnant:

a) should I cleanse?

No way. Just eat clean calories and don't make excuses to load up on processed foods. Pregnancy is a detox that is why cravings are so strong. Drink juice, eat fruit, eat salad, rest, walk. Consult a medical professional for further recommendations. Green Carrot Juice!

b) Is raw juice safe?

Ladies: if you trust your obstetrician, follow his/her recommendations. anyone can get sick at anytime from produce, whether prepared at home or by a commercial operation like Green Carrot. No doctor in their right mind would tell a pregnant women to avoid eating carrots or spinach.

Green Carrot takes every precaution in handling produce to make sure we are serving fresh and clean juice and foods. That being said, this question is a loaded gun, so moms, you’ll have to follow your own instincts and the recommendation of your doctor. We stand behind our product, but must warn people about food-related sickness, the risks associated with a raw food, and raw juice diet.

I am on a cleanse, I am starving. What do I do?

You can do it! Stick it out!

Drink water. Your body will adjust or, should we say, your mind will adjust in a day or two. The body doesn’t distinguish between thirst and hunger so drink water or juice and your stomach will tell your brain to chillax.

If that doesn’t help, drink more caloric juices and even add in a smoothie with hemp protein powder. The feelings of hunger pass quickly if you have will power and don't panic. Even the most insane food addicts testify to the power of the juice to feed the body.

Pull back on physical activity. Take more frequent naps. Ride through it. Avoid solids. Journal!— cleansing is partially about getting to know your body and your limits, so enjoy the time of self-reflection! If you feel dizzy or light headed, you may consider stopping the cleanse.
